Welcome!

Whether you are a beginner or working towards a career as a concert artist, piano lessons with a doctoral-prepared teacher will optimize your musical growth and enjoyment.  Welcome to DuPage Musical Arts Academy, where my goal is to help you create beautiful music. I would love to help you live a richer, fuller life through music! I have degrees in piano, education and history; I can play and teach any style of music. I welcome you to experience my Wheaton studio which accommodates students of all levels and ages.

Dr. Anne Marie Kuhny, a piano professor and music educator, offers private lessons to aspiring musicians in a warm, supportive environment. Dr. Kuhny is a highly-prepared pianist and instructor with a Doctorate in piano performance, along with degrees in piano pedagogy (teaching piano to children) and music history. This full and well-rounded background allows Dr. Kuhny to teach piano repertoire, technique, ear-training, theory, and history in order to provide each student with an individualized plan for growth.  Being both a performer and a pedagogue gives her special insight to teach students effectively at all levels.  Dr. Kuhny holds ear-training first (Suzuki) certification as well as having extensive experience with other traditional (music-reading first) methods. In fall 2018, she relocated her piano studio from Champaign-Urbana to Wheaton.

Dr. Kuhny received the 2021 Top Piano Teacher award from Steinway & Sons in recognition of her commitment to excellence in teaching. Because she has an all-Steinway studio, her students get the benefit of performing on the same instruments they will be competing and performing on as they advance in their studies.

Why should you be particular about choosing a music instructor, especially for beginning students? Research shows that a high-quality music education leads to greater academic success in children, and that the quality of the instructor is a key factor. A great teacher can help a student achieve early success, which will encourage further study and appreciation of music. Please click here to read an excellent summary from the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Dr. Kuhny has the pianistic skills and teaching experience to develop the inherent talent in every student, no matter the age or skill level. Every student is taught in a warm, supportive environment that focuses on building a love for and appreciation of music. All students will receive individualized teaching plans, thereby providing the opportunity to develop talent and learn a life-long appreciation of music and the arts.

Dr. Kuhny received the CAMTA (Chicago Area Music Teachers Association) Member of the Year Award for 2024. This award reflects her commitment to music education for private students, commitment to sharing music with other students by chairing competitions, as well as continuing musical education she provides to other teachers through presenting locally and nationally at conferences.
