Study with a University-Level Professor

For advanced or competitive students, Dr. Anne Marie Kuhny and Dr. Frank Kuhny have the education, experience, and ability to assist in further talent development. “Your goal is my goal” is a frequently heard saying at DuPage Musical Arts Academy.

Competitions and college admissions: Our students win many piano competitions and awards, and those who audition for university-level study are admitted to prestigious universities and conservatories. We are thrilled to help students in their musical endeavors at the highest level. We firmly believe that each student has the need to become what he or she has the ability to become.

We can play and teach anything! It is important to study with a teacher who can play all of the pieces that you want to study, and our teachers can play anything, even the most difficult pieces! Both of our teachers hold a Doctorate in Piano Performance with Dr. Ian Hobson. Dr. Hobson’s studio is one of the most competitive in the world, with most students coming from overseas. Dr. Anne Marie and Dr. Frank Kuhny have competed at the highest levels, and they are happy to help you in your endeavors should you choose to enter competitions.

Two Steinway grand pianos: Studying in a studio with two grand pianos is the standard at the college level. In fact, it is nearly impossible to study advanced repertoire with a teacher who only has one piano. Our studios have Steinway grand pianos, so the piano at your lesson will be similar to almost every piano on which you will perform or compete. When you play on a Steinway regularly, there is little to no adjustment at performances, auditions, and competitions. Most importantly, your beautiful performance sounds best on a beautiful piano.

Concerto rehearsal: Intermediate and advanced pianist should play concerti, that is pieces written for piano and orchestra. For rehearsals, the orchestra part is arranged for a second piano; this is called an “orchestral reduction”. If you are playing a concerto, you will need two pianos, one for your solo part and one for your teacher’s orchestral reduction. We have two Steinway grand pianos in each studio, and we love playing along with you using the orchestral reduction.

Recordings: You will need recordings for many competitions, auditions, and admissions. You will sound your best on our professional Steinway concert grand pianos, and we have excellent recording equipment.

College level study: Are you preparing for university or conservatory admission? It is imperative that you optimize your repertoire selection and performance, and our teachers are experienced at helping pianists do so. Also, studying with a professor before college will help you prepare for the demands of a university or conservatory professor.
